Plano, TX, December 21, 2004 C& K Market Inc. of Brookings, Ore. has chosen Store Next Retail Technologies' ISS45 point-of-sale ( POS) platform with RBO office software and Fujitsu Team Po S 2000 terminal systems for chainwide implementation. Founded in 1956, C& K is a 51-store independent grocer with more than 2,300 employees operating in Oregon and northern California under the Ray's Food Place, Ray's Shop Smart and Ray's Price Less Foods banners. C& K's Store Next rollout began earlier this year and will continue through mid-2006. Installation and ongoing service and support is being handled by Seattle, Wash.-based In Store Technology, a value added POS dealer specializing in solutions focused on the independent grocery market. In Store serves Washington, Oregon and Northern California. We needed a POS system that was flexible to our business needs while providing a front-end that was physically attractive and informative to our customers, said Hank Shields, information technology director at C& K. Store Next answered all of our requirements with its ISS45 platform and Team Po S 2000 terminal system. To date, results have shown that our employees are more efficient and productive, which has netted a substantial increase in customer satisfaction. As technology continues to evolve and new systems become more prevalent in the grocery industry, shoppers' expectations for the convenience and function of that technology will continue to rise, said Ray Carlin, president and chief executive officer of Plano, Texas-based Store Next. We want to level the competitive playing field by providing independent grocers the same technology advantages as the larger chains while decreasing their cost burdens. We expect that C& K and its customers will benefit greatly from our ISS45 solution. Store Next's ISS45 POS was exclusively designed to precisely meet the requirements of independent grocers and.

In the scale of stressful life events, installing a new point of sale ( POS) system ranks right up there with marriage and having a baby. And as with these life-changing events, there is happiness at the end of a maddening roller-coaster of a ride filled with worry, anticipation, long days and sleepless nights. As someone who enjoys change and thrives on big projects, I was thrilled to be the project manager for installing ECR Software’s Catapult system at Mississippi Market Natural Foods Co-op. I had worked with ISS45 POS for the last six years as a cashier, front-end manager, and assistant store manager, so I knew we were ready for some new technology. At each step in our installation process, we planned, discussed, researched, learned, made mistakes, and learned more. While I had the support of other POS project managers, ECRS, and management at Mississippi Market, I wished for a manual or a guidebook to help me through this installation. Looking back, I realize that no manual or guidebook could have fully prepared us for the organized chaos that is a POS installation. But I will offer advice to anyone thinking about embarking on this daunting journey. Choose your system carefully We began this project by evaluating our needs for a new POS system by holding focus groups with all of our managers. They described every function they absolutely needed and also gave me wishes for a new system. Then we pitted our “must have” list against the POS systems on the market and decided on Catapult. We actually gave this list of needs to our sales representative and he verified which of these functions were possible with Catapult. I highly recommend this step for making sure all your basic needs are covered with any new system. Be sure to include all the basics that you might take for granted (i.e. daily reports, receipt layouts, sale structures, discount structures, member.
