Yousseph Slimani (born known as Chico, is a Welsh singer of Moroccan descent who rose to prominence in the United Kingdom after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2005 series of the talent show The X Factor. In 2008, he appeared on the reality TV show Celeb Air in which he placed third. Chico Slimani was born in Bridgend, South Wales to Moroccan parents. Chico's father and mother are both Muslim. At age two, when his parents split during a family vacation, he remained in Morocco and lived with his grandparents. His mother lives in Belgium. He spent his childhood time in Oujda City ( Morocco but when he was 13 years old, his father living in Crawley, West Sussex called him back to the UK. He has studied martial arts. He also worked as a male stripper for a while before re-discovering Islam. Chico's initial X Factor audition was notable because judge Simon Cowell walked out in disgust after fellow judges Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne voted him through to the second round. His category ( Over 25s ) was mentored by Osbourne, who put him through to the live television phase after a particularly memorable performance at the Osbournes' home, in which he jumped into a shallow pool and danced in the water (still holding a live microphone). After the initial live shows, he was widely mocked in the press, but after changing the style of his performances, to become slightly more self-mocking, he began to win voters over. He also became notable for being the first contestant in a Simon Cowell show ( Pop Idol, American Idol, The X Factor) to sing a song co-written with X Factor vocal coach Mark Hudson, the suitably camp and iconic It's Chico Time, named after his catchphrase ( Chico: What time is it? Audience: It's Chico Time! ) It was notable that Cowell himself was won over during the course of the series, commenting that Chico was a born entertainer, even if he.
On its 25th anniversary, The Pogues and Kirsty Mac Coll’s Fairytale Of New York finally breaks through the million copies sales barrier to become the UK’s 126th million selling single of all-time. According to the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, The Pogues and Kirsty Mac Coll’s Fairytale Of New York has now sold over a million copies in the UK. Originally released in 1987, Fairytale Of New York is widely regarded as the greatest Christmas single never to have reached Number 1; so much so that this heartfelt tale of festive excess has re-entered the Official Christmas Singles Chart Top 20 every year for the past eight years, most recently peaking at Number 12. Comments the Official Charts Company’s Managing Director, Martin Talbot: “ It is apt that in the year of its 25th anniversary, Fairytale Of New York has entered into the pantheon of the UK's all time favourite singles to become the latest - and 126th - million selling single in the history of the British charts. It has been a festive favourite ever since it was first released in 1987, so it is great that it can now claim this new honour.” Fairytale Of New York now takes its place in the prestigious list of just 126 singles which have sold over a million copies in the 60 year history of the Official Singles Chart. When the Official Singles Chart celebrated its 50th birthday back in 2002, only 76 singles had reached this sales landmark. However, with the advent of digital downloading, the number of million selling singles have dramatically increased in the subsequent 10 years. Indeed, 2012 has seen nine singles break through the million copies sales barrier including Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing (originally released in 1998 Cheryl Cole's Fight For This Love (2009 Matt Cardle’s When We Collide (2010 Rihanna and Calvin Harris’ We Found Love (2011 Jessie J FT B.o. B.’s Price Tag (2011).

Meghan Trainor performs in Las Vegas, Nevada in September. Photo by Isaac Brekken/ Getty Images for i Heart Media Halfway into October, I doubt I need to familiarize you with the No. 1 song in America, Meghan Trainor’s fauxminist booty anthem “ All About That Bass.” After evicting Taylor Swift’s blockbuster hit “ Shake It Off” from the penthouse of Billboard’s Hot 100 five weeks ago, this giant-killing song from a first-time artist hasn't let go. It’s still on top more than a month later, nearly three times as long as Swift’s song commanded the list. Usually we call this series “ Why Is This Song No. 1?” But this calls for a slightly different question: Why is this song still No. 1? Trainor’s retro-girl-group, Doris Day–cum– Betty Everett song—celebrating the ladies who tilt plus-size and, more importantly, the men who love them—is basically omnipresent. For nearly a month it’s had the biggest radio audience in the U. S., and it’s sold roughly 2.7 million downloads. According to Billboard and Nielsen, it’s been You Tube’s most-streamed music video for most of September and October. Maybe you haven’t been clicking the “play again” button on Vevo, but an impressionable 10-year-old you know probably has. And even if you’ve gotten through early fall without hearing the song constantly, “ Bass” and Trainor have likely crossed your radar: The song has been catnip for thinkpiece-writers. Most are not impressed. While virtually everyone applauds Trainor’s disses on Photoshop beauty standards and her motivational-poster-worthy line, “ Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top,” many are deeply dubious about her approach to body positivity, which tears down “skinny bitches” even as it exalts the bootylicious. As Slate’s own L. V. Anderson put it, for the curvaceous Trainor, “perfection apparently depends on male approval.” More charitable commentators, like the sharp Jillian.
