Yousseph Slimani (born known as Chico, is a Welsh singer of Moroccan descent who rose to prominence in the United Kingdom after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2005 series of the talent show The X Factor. In 2008, he appeared on the reality TV show Celeb Air in which he placed third. Chico Slimani was born in Bridgend, South Wales to Moroccan parents. Chico's father and mother are both Muslim. According to the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, The Pogues and Kirsty Mac Coll’s Fairytale Of New York has now sold over a million copies in the UK. Originally released in 1987, Fairytale Of New York is widely regarded as the greatest Christmas single never to have reached Number 1; so much so that this heartfelt tale of festive excess has re-entered the Official Christmas Singles Chart Top 20 every year for the past eight years, most recently peaking at Number 12. Comments the Official Charts Company’s Managing Director, Martin Talbot: “ It is apt that in the year of its 25th anniversary, Fairytale Of New York has entered into the pantheon of the UK's all time favourite singles to become the latest - and 126th - million selling single in the history of the British charts. Usually we call this series “ Why Is This Song No. 1?” But this calls for a slightly different question: Why is this song still No. 1? Trainor’s retro-girl-group, Doris Day–cum– Betty Everett song—celebrating the ladies who tilt plus-size and, more importantly, the men who love them—is basically omnipresent. For nearly a month it’s had the biggest radio audience in the U. S., and it’s sold roughly 2.7 million downloads. According to Billboard and Nielsen, it’s been You Tube’s most-streamed music video for most of September and October.
