Sonic blasts his way back onto the Genesis with an all-new look that's awesome. You'll play via a 3/4-overhead (isometric) view that enables you to motor through the game's 7 Zones and 14 Acts in 360 degrees. Dr. Robotnik's back to terrorize creatures called Flickies. The Gamers' Day demo made it clear that despite the overhead view Sonic's faster than ever as he races to snatch Rings and undo Robotnik's evil deeds. Sonic the Hedgehog is back! Sega's going to plant its blue hero in five platforms, but it hasn't forgotten where he made his rep. Sonic Genesis busts out of 2 D gameplay into sizzling 3 D action. This time Sonic rescues his animal pals from Dr. Robotnik's clutches in a 360-degree world through seven Zones, with bonus levels and hidden areas. The E3 version wasn't up to full speed, but Sega promises massive 'hog acceleration. Sonic 3 D Blast (or simply Sonic 3 D in certain countries) is an isometric platform game, starring Sonic the Hedgehog along with other familiar characters from the series. The storyline is nothing special; on an island in an alternate dimension there are peculiar birds called Flickies, with the special abilities. Because of this, they are subject to Doctor Robotnik’s exploitations as he searches for the lost Chaos Emeralds. It is Sonic’s job to save them and prevent the evil doctor from fulfilling his plan. The title is somewhat misleading. The 3 D models are pre-rendered as sprites in a two dimensional environment, resulting in what is called 2.5 D. Still, they are rendered nicely and, at the time of its release, offered something new in regards to graphics. The effects scattered around the game really make it pleasant to play. Sonic 3 D Blast- Flickies Islands ( PC) - Info adapted and rearranged from Wikipedia.org and Mobygames.com - Sonic 3 D Blast, known as Sonic 3 D: Flickies' Island in Japan and Europe, is an isometric platform game and the first 3 D game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was developed in the United Kingdom by Traveller's Tales and published by Sega in the year 1996. Sonic 3 D was the last Sonic title released for the Mega Drive/ Genesis, the only platforming presence of the blue blur in the Sega Saturn, and one of his rare appearances in Personal Computers. The title, considering the era it was released, is somewhat misleading, as instead of full blown 3 D graphics it uses an isometric view where Sonic can move not only forwards and backwards, but also left and right. A port of the Sega Saturn version was released for Microsoft Windows in 1997. It contained the same videos and soundtrack, but lacking some of the Sega Saturn's graphical upgrades, such as the fog visual effects. Features exclusive to this version include the ability to save one's progress in the game, and a third version of the special stage that mixed the 2 D sprites from the Sega Genesis version with the basic 3 D gameplay of the Sega Saturn version. Gameplay is much slower when compared to other games in the series, and the number of badniks is reduced to five in each section. As usual, when Sonic destroys one badnik, an animal leaps free from its insides, but this time Sonic has to pick him up and lead them to an interdimensional ring. While they can be taken one by one, exploring the level with all five allow the player to reach for otherwise inaccessible continue tokens. Unlike all other previous games, time isn't a requirement: if the player completes a level in more than 10 minutes, it would only mean there would be no time bonus at the end. Finally, to collect all seven Chaos Emeralds, Sonic first.
