System Requirements: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows 8.1

The complete 1982 video with the original introduction, NOT the animated or David Bowie intros for TV broadcast. Based on the book The Snowman by Raymond.
You can ask anyone born before, or around, 1975 if they remember the snow in the early 1980s, and they will most likely reply ‘yes.’ Depending on their age at the time, you will hear tales of schoolchildren who were happy that school was closed and they could play with their friends outside, and adults will tell you stories of buried cars, undriveable roads, and how the community came together to dig out shop fronts, and help push start cars that needed a little help to get moving. National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales preserves and celebrates the sound and moving image heritage of Wales, making it accessible to a wide range of users for enjoyment and learning. Its film collection reflects every aspect of the nation’s social, cultural and working life across the 20th century, giving a fascinating insight into Welsh filmmaking, both amateur and professional.

The film shows a 10 minute snapshot of the memorable early 80s snow, with Lanelli's town centre and terraced streets being blanketed by the snowfall. Despite the difficulties, the home movie captures the community coming together in snowy solidarity, helping to dig out shop fronts, clearing roads but most importantly, donning their thickest Winter wear and taking time to enjoy the weird weather that left their home town almost unrecognisable. Click here to watch the video It also highlights how Llanelli has changed in the past 32 years. In the footage, Market Street and Park Street are so full of shoppers they are almost unrecognisable today, whilst Bridge Street, adjacent to St Elli Parish Church is yet to undergo its pedestrianisation. Much of the local architecture remains the same today though. The terraced houses still stand along the steep, hilly streets, and the road running along College Hill remains tree-lined. The British Film Institute, or BFI, was founded in 1933 as a means of promoting the appreciation of film and moving image culture in the UK. The free-to-view film is available on BFI Player online, and is sure to stir memories amongst longstanding members of the community.
