If you check the specs for that laptop drive you may find that its only a 5400 RPM drive. Most 3.5 inch desktop drives run at 7200 RPM. Its a noticeable difference. They use 5400 RPM drives in laptops to reduce heat and give you better battery life. The trade off is reduced performance OK, at least you know the drive is OK. You never really know with an old drive recovered from another PC, especially if its been sitting around for a while. If you still think there is another issue I'd look at your RAM. From the sounds of things you have an odd amount possibly some mismatched modules. For optimum performance its recommended to use matched modules. Most of the time you can get away with modules from different brands but sometimes it cam mess things up, especially if they are different sizes. If your motherboard supports dual channel you want to at least try to match them by size, otherwise it won't work and that will impact performance. If you could figure out what modules you have, what brand, what size, and what slot they are in it would help. Rearranging them and possibly even removing one may be beneficial in the end. jjkhart July 24, 2010 at Specs: Windows 7 64 Bit, 6 GB After upgrading to Windows 7 64bit my DVD player/recorder stopped working so it was replaced with the above - Win 7 compatible. It does not appear under the Computer drives however Device Manager displays it with a yellow triangle. On investigation via properties the following is shown A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. ( Code 32) The device has been uninstalled, system rebooted many times the drive works fine with other O/ S's and the Bios recognises the drive - HELP please I am lost for ideas.
