The exact location of the plug may vary depending on your year, make, and model of truck. To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects directly to your brake controller. No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it.
Here at Husky Towing Products we are committed to helping you tow safely with the right towing equipment for your truck and trailer combination. Remove whatever tape is holding it in place, and bring the plug down toward the floor. Find a suitable location to mount the controller. ALL brake controller manufacturers strongly recommend that it be placed in a location accessible to the driver, so that the manual override can be easily reached. When drilling holes for the mounting bracket, take the time to ensure that there's nothing behind the panel you're drilling into that might get damaged. Follow your controller manufacturer's instructions, as some of these controllers must be mounted relatively level in order to work properly.
