The fact is that until you start getting better, start learning your yardages - until you've gotten to the point where you will actually see some difference in ball flight and distance between, say, hitting a 4-iron and hitting a 5-iron - there is really no need for a full set. Most beginners can get started, and get by just fine, with a 3-wood, 3-hybrid, 5-iron, 7-iron, 9-iron and putter. You can buy short sets brand new and fill them in later by purchasing the missing clubs individually. Or you can find short sets at second-hand shops, garage sales, etc., then trade up to a full set when you are ready to purchase new clubs. If the ball is going straight off to the right you probably have a good swing plane but are leaving the clubface slightly open at impact. If you're.
